چیست و اختلال‌های مشابه با آن چگونه
درمان می‌شوند. افراد بزرگسالی که از نظر جنسی فعال هستند، ممکن است در طول زندگی به
صورت موردی دچار یک نوع فتیش بشوند، اما چون این نوع تمایل‌ها همراه با پریشانی ذهنی
نیستند به عنوان اختلال محسوب نمی‌شوند.
البته بسیاری از افرادی که علاقه‌های فتیش‌گونه دارند یا تحت تاثیر
پارافیلیا هستند، پریشانی خاصی
را تجربه نکرده و به خود و دیگران آسیبی نمی‌زنند و به همین جهت گفته نمی‌شود که این افراد دارای بیماری روانی هستند.
بنابراین فوت فتیش تنها زمانی که سبب پریشانی، زیان و یا آسیب به خود و دیگران شود به عنوان یک بیماری روانی محسوب خواهد شد.
