අදට වඩා ඒ කාලේ ගායිකාවක් ලෙස නමක් හදාගන්න ටිකක් අමාරුයි නේද?
ඔව්; ක්ෂේත්‍රයට එන්න නම් සැබෑ දක්ෂතාවක් තියෙන්න ඕනෑ. තාක්ෂණයත් සමඟ යන නිසා දැන් ලේසියි. ඒ කාලේ කට්ට කාලා තමයි දුරක් එන්න වෙන්නේ. දැන් තාක්ෂණයත් සමඟ යෑම නිසා හැම දෙයක්ම කරන්න පහසුයි. ඒක තාක්ෂණයේ වරදක් නෙමෙයි. නමුත් මහන්සියක් නැතුව ගායනා කරද්දි පැවැත්මත් අඩුයි.

ඔහුගේ සංගීත කණ්ඩායමට එක්වෙන්න කලින් පටිගත කිරීම්වලට කී බෝඩ් වාදනයෙන් දායක වුණා. ‘මදාරා’ කණ්ඩායමේ රූකාන්ත, රාජු, කෙනම්ද සිල්වා, මහින්ද සිල්වා සමඟ මමත් එක්වුණා. ‘ජුනියර් රිදමියන්ස්’ කුඩා සංගීත කණ්ඩායම සමඟ සෑහෙන කලක් රැඳුණා. කණ්ඩායම් සංගීතය මට අලුත් දෙයක් නොවුණත්, ක්ලැරන්ස් සමඟ වැඩ කිරීමේදී බොහෝ දේවල් ඉගෙන ගත්තා. ඔහුට තියෙන්නේ හුඟාක් ඉදිරියට ගිය දර්ශනයක්.

මගේ හ‍ඬේ විශේෂත්වයක් මම නම් දකින්නේ නැහැ. අනිත් අය දකිනවද මම දන්නෙ නැහැ. ජනතාවගේ හද බැඳ ගැනී‍ෙම් රහස විදිහට මම දකින්නේ මම හිතන්නේ මට තියන දෙවියන්ගේ ආශිර්වාදයයි. නැත්නම් අවුරුදු 52 වගේ කාලයක් ක්ෂේත්‍රයේ රැ‍ඳෙන්න බැහැනේ. මම දැන් නම් හුඟාක් අයගෙන් ඈත්වෙලා තමයි ඉන්නෙ. ඇසුරු කරන්නෙ ටික දෙනයි. කීර්ති පැස්කුවෙල්, මහේෂ් දෙණිපිටිය, පීටර් රොසයිරෝ, සරත් වගේ අයයි. හු‍ෙදකලාව ජීවත් වෙන්නයි මම දැන් කැමැති වැඩිපුරම.

මම දකින්නේ විනාශයක් තමයි You tube, internet වලින් ගීත එළිදක්වන නිසා අනිත් අයට C.D. එකක්වත් නිකුත් කරලා අලෙවි කරගන්න බැරිවෙලා තියනවා. සුදුසුද නැද්ද බලන්නෙ නැතුව ලංකාවෙ හැම දෙයක්ම රැල්ලට යනවා. සංගීතයත් රැල්ලට ගිහින්.
නවකයින් කෙටි ක්‍රමවලින් ජනප්‍රියවීම ප්‍රවීණයන්ට අභියෝගයක් නෙමෙයිද?
තාවකාලික අභියෝගයක් තමයි. තරගයක් පවත්වද්දි තරගය අවසන් වන තුරු නවකයින්ට ජනප්‍රියත්වයක් තියනවා තමයි. නමුත් ඒ අයට දිගුකාලීන පැවැත්මක් නැහැ. සමහරු තමන්ගේ හැකියාවෙන් ස්වාධීන අනන්‍යතාවයකින් ඉදිරියට එන අවස්ථා නැතුවා නොවෙයි. උපේකා නිර්මාණි එවැනි හැකියාව ඇති කෙනෙක්. මම මුලින් ආවෙත් 1960 ගණන්වල ලේක්හවුස් observer පත්තරේ මගින් පවත්වපු talent serch වැඩසටහනෙන්. මම පළමු තැන ගත්තේ කාලයක් යද්දි බටහිර ගීත ගායනා කළා. නමුත් ක්‍රමයෙන් මම මගේ අනන්‍යතාවය ගොඩනගා ගත්තා. කෙටි ක්‍රමවලින් නවකයෝ හතු පිපෙනවා වගේ බිහිවුණාට කෙටි කාලෙකින් පරවෙලා යනවා.
අදට වඩා අතීතයේ ප්‍රශස්ත මට්ටමේ ගීත වැඩිපුර නිර්මාණය වුණා කීවොත්…
ඒ කාලේ ගීත නිර්මාණය වුණේ ගායක ගායිකාවන්ගේ හඬ, ස්වර පරාසය ගැන හිතලා. හොඳ ගීත හතරක් තෝරගන්න ගීත 10 විතර නිර්මාණය කළා. ස්වාභාවික පරිසරය සමඟ බද්ධ වී ජීවත් වුණු අයගේ නිර්මාණ රචනාවන් පවා පිරිසිදුයි. ඒත් වර්තමානයේ එහෙම නැහැ. ඕනෑවට වඩා ගීත නිර්මාණය වෙද්දි එකම වචන, එකම තනුව, එහෙට මෙහෙට කරලා තමයි හදන්නේ. හැබැයි ඒ අතරෙත් හොඳ නිර්මාණ නැතුවා නොවෙයි. ඒත් ගීතවල ප්‍රමිතියි බාලයි.
මහේෂ් දෙණිපිටිය, සුගත් හෙට්ටිආරච්චි, මහින්ද බණ්ඩාර, නාලක සංජීව, පසන් ලියනගේ ඉදිරියෙන් ඉන්නවා නව පරපුරේ. ගීත රචනා පැත්තෙන් සම්පත් ප්‍රනාන්දු පුල්ලේ මනුරංග හොඳ මට්ටමක සිටිනවා.
ජේ්‍යෂ්ඨ ගායිකාවක් හැටියට ඔබ ගීත කලාවෙ අනාගතය කොහොමද දකින්නේ?

ඕස්ට්‍රෙලියාවෙ පදිංචි කැමරන් කොළඹගේ සමඟ අලුත් නිර්මාණ කීපයක් මම කරනවා. මේ දිනවල මුතු පබුලු ගීතයට ලැබෙන්න ප්‍රතිචාරත් හොඳයි. ඕනෑම අම්මා කෙනෙක්ගේ වගේම මගෙත් ප්‍රාර්ථනය කවදහරි පුතා ළඟට එංගලන්තයට යන්නයි. එතෙක් මම ලංකාවේ නිර්මාණ කටයුතුවල යෙදෙනවා. සැහැල්ලුවෙන් ජීවත් වෙනවා.
